SNK plays a major role in Tokyo Skytree project

SNK Steel Columns used in Tokyo Skytree construction

The world’s tallest free-standing tower at 634meters or 2080feet, the Tokyo-Sky Tree was completed earlier this year. This tower was erected to enhance Japan’s digital airwave coverage for the Kanto region and beyond.

SNK’s round columns, the same as those used on the SNK RB-M Series Double Column Machining Centers, are utilized on the diagonal sections of the first deck (350meter) of the tower. According to the architects, SNK was the only company that was able to offer a column that met their design requirements . . .590N class, 4 meter (13ft-1.5in) long, 318.5mm (12.54in) diameter seamless tubing with a thickness of 32mm (1.26in). The round columns are better known as Centrifugal Cast Steel Pipes or spun cast seamless pipes. 590N class 3D Tensile Strength of 590N/sq. mm or 86ksi.
