How many customers are asking you to measure the parts you are producing for them?

- How many customers are asking you to measure the parts you are producing for them?

- What frustrates you with checking parts and verify accuracies in your shop?

We would like to introduce you to Hexagon manufacturing intelligence in this episode of the Premier Post Minute.

Rethink Quality in Design and Engineering, Production and Metrology with Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence.

Work Smarter- Place quality at the heart of your smart factory strategy.

Manufacturing with Quality Throughout the Product Lifecycle

In our consumer-driven world, success can hinge on ‘perceived quality’ – the customer perception of the products they purchase. Major brands are actively promoting a quality image and demanding that their factories and suppliers live up to their consumers’ expectations. In short, if you work in manufacturing, quality is your business.

But who is responsible for the quality of the products you produce? Is it the metrology experts in the quality department? The team responsible for the production process? Maybe it’s the designers and engineers who came up with the concept in the first place?

Think that quality is the responsibility of one department? Think again.

At Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, we believe that quality is a shared responsibility amongst stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle. Every person in every department who interacts with a component as it makes its journey from design to reality can affect quality. Our solutions enable you to rethink quality in your department and collaborate with your colleagues on site and around the world to design and engineer, produce and measure quality – and ensure you deliver quality to your customers.

Let us work together to measure yo to a higher standard!

What is most important when you are selecting a Fiber Laser?

Eagle is the best choice in flat-stock sheet and plate metal cutting because advanced technology delivers the fastest throughput and lowest cost per part in the industry. Here are some details:

1.           HIGHEST POWER - 2 to 15kW: The competition is just now reaching 8 to 10kW. The holdback has been a reliable head, and Eagle has just released the latest eVa® head, version 10.5. They have been perfecting ultrahigh output power for years and have the most reliable cutting head today. Higher power means faster cutting and thicker cutting (up to 60mm).

Click here for a quick video

2.           FASTEST DYNAMICS: The Eagle iNspire® machine will move 13,780 ipm between cuts. Dizzyingly fast. No one is faster. The top speed while holding cut path accuracy of 0.05mm is 5,900 ipm.

But speed is meaningless on a laser without acceleration. Eagle has 6g acc/dec. Other machines operate at 1 to 2g, with a few hitting 3g. Every time you double the Gs you cut the time and distance to reach any speed in half. This machine is incredibly quick due to its’ ideal design: carbon fiber bridge, polymer granite base, center of gravity drive mechanism placement, linear motors on all axes, ultrafast digital drives, and absolute optical encoder feedback. YouTube: 6g versus 1g Acceleration

3.           QUICKEST MATERIAL HANDLING –A machine this fast cuts a full sheet or plate in no time, thereby requiring 6 to 10 sheet changes per hour. Hydraulic pallet changers will exchange a sheet in 30 to 60 seconds, but Eagle’s servo driven system does it in just 9 seconds.

Eagle also has full material storage automation, which will be necessary for high production work.

Eagle understands the importance of uptime. The machine has reliability built in by using only the best components such as Renishaw, Festo, IPG Photonics, Nord, Beckhoff, Hiwin, and many other industry-leading suppliers with US parts and service. And every Eagle comes standard with at 2 year warranty, next-day service tech guarantee, and many other advantages.

Why not start with contacting us with the words 6G and we can get started. Thank you for your time and we love to have you as a profit partner.

How do we help with your employee and productivity concerns during these uncertain times? The Index Multi Spindle is an amazing answer!

The INDEX MS22-8 multi-spindle automatic lathe with internal robotic part handling offers high-volume, lights-out manufacturing of precision parts. The robot further increases the performance of the already fast multi-spindle lathe, providing benefits in particular to applications featuring highly complex parts.

"The INDEX MS22-8 CNC multi-spindle automatic lathe excels in a wide variety of applications in industries ranging from automotive to medical technology," said a company spokesperson. "It also produces small batches efficiently and economically. The versatile INDEX MS22-8 can be bar-fed or loaded with chucked parts." Furthermore, depending on the characteristics of a particular component, the machine can be configured as an eight-spindle machine, a double four-spindle machine dropping two parts at a time or a machine with double rear-end machining.

The MS22-8 can accomplish turning, off-center drilling and thread cutting, inclined and cross drilling, milling, multi-edge turning, polygon turning, hobbing, tooth milling, deep-hole drilling and slotting. All standard toolholders and toolholder system interfaces can be used with a range of popular adapters, including Capto, HSK, VDI and INDEX systems.

Each spindle is assigned two cross slides that can travel both in the X- and Z-axes. Additionally, one cross slide per position can be equipped with a Y-axis for up to four positions. The cross slides feature an integrated drive and a low-mass design with hydrostatic bearing support. Their low moment of inertia and resulting high dynamics facilitate enhanced acceleration.

The cross slides incorporate hydrostatic sliding guides in the feed axis (Z), providing increased damping that prevents the transfer of the machining vibrations to the adjacent slide via the headstock. This helps to mitigate vibration and rattling while workpieces are being machined, even when diverse machining processes are being performed concurrently by the eight spindles. For example, one spindle can be used for heavy-duty roughing while high-precision finishing takes place on another spindle without sacrificing surface quality. The hydrostatic bearing is wear-free, with neither friction nor a stick-slip effect.

"The speed of the machine's eight liquid-cooled spindles can be controlled independently, and the spindles are arranged in the proven INDEX spindle drum," said the spokesperson. "The fluid-cooled spindle drum eliminates thermal growth, enables high power density within the drum and provides the capability for energy recovery from the heated cooling fluid. The system also keeps the spindle bearing temperature at a low level, prolonging service life and further enhancing stability."

In double four-spindle mode, the MS22-8 runs as two machines in one, dropping two complete parts in each cycle. Every second tool station has simultaneous access to the same tools. When operated as an eight-spindle machine, the drum indexing angle from position to position is 45°. In double four-spindle mode, the drum indexing angle is 90°.

Two swiveling synchronous spindles permit double rear end machining. In this mode, there are six spindle positions available for front machining and two spindle positions for rear end machining, all cutting simultaneously. With this approach, it is possible to machine the rear end of a workpiece during two drum indexing cycles. Because all cross slides are located at the same travel angle to one another, free chip flow is guaranteed in each position. Additionally, the swiveling synchronous spindles are locked into the end positions by three-part Hirth couplings, providing a level of stiffness that enables high precision in bar diameters up to 24 mm.

The Hirth coupling also eliminates the need to electronically compensate at the end position. "The mechanical lock ensures optimal stiffness and increases the positioning accuracy. This allows accurate cutting of highly complex components that require complex cut-off side machining," said the spokesperson. The swivel movement to the rear end position occurs in less than 0.3 seconds.

The MS22-8 features a front-opening design that offers the operator enhanced accessibility during set-up and tooling. Moreover, there is free chip flow down into the chip discharge chute.

To save space, the INDEX engineers placed the control cabinet on the machine. "This principle of integrating the control cabinet into the machine roof has been applied to INDEX multi-spindle machines for almost 15 years and has been very well received in the market," said the spokesperson.

Workpieces are discharged damage-free from the work area and placed on pallets for later treatment. The MS22-8 can be equipped to include multiple optional handling solutions, including machine-integrated handling with an external stacking unit. This approach allows destruction-free removal of parts from the machine, including measuring operations for the workpieces if needed. Workpiece data can be fed back directly to the machine control so it can automatically correct its machining parameters.

All INDEX machine are designed to minimize energy consumption. To this end, the MS22-8 incorporates weight-optimized components to reduce energy consumption and increase dynamic response, regenerative drives for energy recovery and automatic shutdown of components that consume significant amounts of energy via a user-defined automatic standby mode. The machine design also minimizes friction via optimally paired materials and low-friction bearings. Intelligent cooling principles remove heat from the spindles, hydraulics and control cabinet and use a cold-water interface to transfer that heat for other uses.

How do you measure productivity with your Fiber Laser? How about 9 holes per second. YES, you read that correctly!

Achieving the amazing rate of 9 holes a second is all about acceleration. Sure, the Eagle’s iNspire Series has a top simultaneous speed of 13,780 ipm, but it pops holes at the rate of a machine gun due to industry leading 6g acceleration. The FASTEST fiber laser is also the QUICKEST. For most applications, acceleration is more important than velocity.

Click here to see the amazing video:

Acceleration on Intricate Sheet Metal Parts

Machine acceleration helps reduce part cycle time on both thick and thin parts. On thick plate material, the acceleration helps you move quickly between cuts (rapid traverse moves). On thin sheet metal, acceleration helps you during rapid traverse moves and accelerating and decelerating on intricate geometry.

This part shows a lot of ornate detail that will require the machine to decelerate and accelerate on all direction changes.

Negotiate Corners Faster with 6g Acceleration

If the fiber laser is cutting left to right as shown by the solid red arrow, the machine will have to accelerate at the beginning of the segment and then decelerate as it approaches the corner. If the machine is not quick enough, then it’s likely the laser will never reach the programmed cut speed on this short segment before it has to start decelerating at as it prepares for the right hand turn (in direction of the dotted line).

DESIGNED FOR ACCELERATION

Linear motors are used on all 3 axes (yes, even the Z)

Polymer granite base, such as used on CMMs, provides ultimate rigidity, temperature stability, and vibration dampening

Gantry configuration is idealized for low weight and high stiffness

On the Eagle iNspire the bridge is carbon fiber – 2.5 times lighter than steel yet delivering greater stiffness and vibration dampening

How do your operators feel about their production machine? They would have no complaints about the Index C100/C200 as it is trimmed for production.

INDEX C100 / C200 with iXcenter - Trimmed for productivity

The production lathes INDEX C100 and C200 with their two or three turrets with Y-axis stand for maximum efficiency in the complete machining of complex rod turning parts. Of particular importance is the guide system INDEX SingleSlide, which guarantees a very high dynamic with optimal vibration damping. With automation solutions such as the robot cell iXcenter, further advantages can be realized.

The automatic lathes INDEX C100 (spindle passage 42 mm) and C200 (spindle passage 65 / 90 mm) are consistently trimmed for productivity. With their two or three turrets, the two machines are suitable for demanding simultaneous machining. The required power is provided by the main and counter spindles n. For high dynamics also the counter spindle, which reaches in the rush up to 60 or 50 m/min (C100 / C200) . The fast turret circuit also contributes to short chip-to-chip times.   Due to the possibility of using two Y-axis on the main spindle or one each on the main and counter spindles, complex workflows can be optimally divided, and the unit times can be further reduced.   In the INDEX production lathes C100 and C200, optionally up to three turrets with 10 or 14 stations are integrated, whereby a wide part spectrum can be processed. The patented INDEX W gearing of the turret helps   to realize short makeready times even with small batch sizes.

An essential distinguishing feature compared to conventional rotary gases is the INDEX SingleSlide, a sliding guide with two degrees of freedom in one flat. It consists of guide strips with wear- and friction-reducing coating as well as hardened and surface-treated guide plates. INDEX SingleSlide significantly improves the damping properties, resulting in further advantages such as up to 30 percent longer tool ingestion times and higher workpiece qualities.

The end-to-end cooling concept also ensures high production precision. Loss heat generated in the spindles, the hydraulic unit and the control cabinet is discharged from the machine via a central fluid circuit. The energy is bound in a single medium and not released to the environment of the machine. With an integrated water interface, INDEX offers two solutions for heat dissipation:   either the connection to a local cooling unit or to a central system. In this way, the machine can be adapted to the respective production environment in the best possible way.

INDEX also offers an option for the control technology used. The customer can choose between the FANUC CNC 31i-B with 15" touch screen or Siemens S840D sl, which with 18.5" touch screen serves as the basis for the INDEX control system iXpanel.   The latter serves, among other things, the complete integration into network structures and sets almost no limits to data communication.

In order to further optimize the real use of itsproduction lathes, INDEX offers automation solutions in various stages of expansion. These range from the integrated portal removal device, which ensures a fast and damage-free workpiece removal, to the robot cell iXcenter with vertical pallet memory, which supports fully automated operation. It is docked to the machine in order to then move raw and / or finished parts quickly, safely and flexibly to and from the machine. During the setup process, it can be easily moved to the right, allowing unhindered access to the working area. In production, the iXcenter is fixed in front of the machine work room. Then the 6-axis robot (6kg payload) is accessed into the work area via the work space door of the machine, which automatically opens behind the robot cell.

iXcenter contains a space-saving vertical memory with up to 22 pallets (600 x 400 mm) work stock. The pallets with raw parts are loaded by the robot at the top, pallets with parts at the bottom are removed. This can happen at any time without interrupting production. Also switched processes such as cleaning, measuring, deburring, etc. can be integrated into the robot cell.

The iXcenter, like other automation equipment, can optionally be integrated into various INDEX and TRAUB production machines.

Premier is proud to be the exclusive representative of the index Traub products for the operators who want to push the limit! Sales 414-254-5150 / This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
