The MLK 32/38 hybrid Swiss-type lathe from Maier USA is a seven-axis, sliding headstock machine that has a removable guide bushing. The machine offers bar capacity of 32 mm when a guide bushing is used and 38 mm without a guide bushing. Running without a guide bushing offers cost savings to shops because it eliminates the need for precision-ground barstock and yields shorter bar remnants, the company says. The machine’s main spindle and subspindle motors offer 7.5 hp and maximum speed of 6,000 rpm. It has a total of 23 tool stations (28 stations is an option). Eight of those are live-tool stations are rated at 2.2 hp. The lathe uses a Fanuc 30i-TA control and runs Maier Motion Control software.
